I thought the last turn point was the Chelan Butte (start point) but it turns out pilots had to go well north to another mountain for the final turn point before returning to the Butte. A really long race, where the winner was not feeling well yet flew well enough to win. I stood next to Philippe as he interviewed the winner at the start (I believe his name is Jack Brown, but I am just awful with names).
Zak, explains to me how the pilots are working the lift on the opposite side of the river and helps the winner to his feet.
I wish I could have stayed to catch more landings, but it was a long way to the airport up a 6 degree grade, and still quite hot. As it was, I needed all the time I had planned for to get to the airport to meet Pete in time.
For those of you that would like a little tour of the Chelan Butte, I give some information here. What a great hill to fly! Launches in all directions.
If anyone viewing this knows Jason Matthoff or Mattloff (sp?) of Chelan please let him know that I am still thankful for the ride up the hill. He saved the day and trip for me with the ride up the hill, while having his family and friends wait to go water skiing!

  • Nice road!

You need to get Perry to bring you to Butte and fly Our Lady of the Rockies.

  • @flyhghgy It is a fairly nice road (mainly dirt), although narrow in places. The locals are pretty stern about not using the road right after a rain due to the damage that can be done. I am not a member of the USHPGA nor a rated pilot, so I don't think I would be allowed on the site to fly. I do get to watch your videos though! I accidentally found the hill you launched off of in Spokane. I told my buddy, Pete, that this overlook was awfully familiar...and I was right. You are such a desperado!

  • @RusinVanDyke You don't have to be a rated pilot to join USHPA. We do require pilots to be members of USHPA to fly our site. We have some sites in the Jefferson valley you could fly. Dry Georgia gulch would be a good place for you. I know of another place in the Jefferson valley we could fly if you don't mind being a pirate. It has a nice open grassy launch.

I was told about that place in Spokane on High Drive and saw wind indicators that others had flown there so I thought I'd give it a try. .
