This is Laura Merians of the Berkeley YWCA Tomiki Aikido Club performing the Junanahon Kata (Basic 17 Techniques) of Tomiki aikido on Carlos Teuscher of the USC Tomiki Aikido Club. As you can see, it is an informal demonstration on the sidelines during the 2003 Arnold Battle of Columbus. But since Laura spent significant time at the Shodokan Dojo in Osaka studying under Tetsuro Nariyama, her form is well worth studying---which is why I am posting this clip.

  • @towag that's not very nice to say - why can't you be positive?

  • Nice!

  • it was a practice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes, I hit reply to towag - Towag could we see your version of the Junana hon kata please?

  • i was refering to the comment made by "towag", it was an informal practice, a warm up

  • Could we see your version please?

  • obviously a warm up, informal practice, we all do it

  • I like this post, i think its good for students to see both the higher grade demos etc, and the students of aikido practicing and learning to become the future higher grades. I'm no expert, but isn't it good to see both the progress you've made (what your doing well) and where you can make future progress (what your doing wrong, or could correct/improve? I agree with "PRehse" and notice informal mentioned and would like to see your uploads towag...

  • I only ask because you can see she was trained by someone with a direct connection. If I was picky I could make a list of what I would change but the essential elements are all pretty well represented.

  • Really - perhaps you should post some of their videos.

It does look pretty relaxed (the poster said it was informal) but she has good posture, decent ido-rokyo and precision. I never met her, how long was she at Honbu.
