All-Ireland Hurling Final, 1984: Cork V Offaly

The All-Ireland Hurling Championship Final of 1984 was played at Semple Stadium, Thurles to mark the centenary of the G.A.A.. In winning the match, Cork avoided defeat in their third successive final and captured the county's 25th title. Although Offaly were only two points down at half-time, Cork scored one goal and six points without reply in the first thirteen minutes of the second half.

Despite an interruption from delighted Cork fans, captain John Fenton accepts the Liam McCarthy cup from Paddy Buggy, the chairman of the G.A.A..

I was 11years old that day and watched the game from the NEW stand, I was happy cause there was talk of the old stand being haunted, Offaly lost..if Johnny Flaherty was playing we would have won, no doubt...On the way home some scumbags in Roscrea were burning Offaly flags and I was a bit afraid....Ive hated tipperary ever since...Kinnitty went on to win the county final dat year and Offaly won the All Ireland the next yearUP DA FAITHFUL
