This video will show you the steps in installing and configuring CopSSH in Windows. This can be used to SFTP into your site, SSH in for console administration or set up an SSH tunnel.

The path to download, referenced in the video, is: http://sourceforge.net/projects/sereds/files/Copssh

If you'd like to know how to set up the SSH tunnel please see our other video that describes these steps.

  • Ok...One question....can u be traced?

  • @Bloodyfisted

You could very easily be traced.

The end connection would be traced back to the machine you're connecting through and then the incoming connect could easily be traced back to your originating machine.

  • Everyone who tries this, note that when you install it to your computer, if you activate it to the user account that you use on your computer, you will be unable to log on. Install it to a separate username on your computer, or you will be locked out.

If it does happen to you that you can't get on, hit Ctrl + Alt + Delete 2 times and then type in another username on the computer and the password (hopefully you have another admin account that you can log onto)

  • @questionman5 - Thanks for the information, however, I haven't run in to this issue when setting up this software.

One thing that is important is that if you specify your username that you use the same username and password as your windows account, if you use the same name but different password that may lock you out.

    Thanks!

  • Very well done. I'm just confused on one thing......

So my computer account that I use is named, for example.....John Smith

I don't have a password to my computer.

When i set up CopSSH, I put in no password (the first one), but the passphrase I put as (eg) SSHserver

When I go and access localhost with Putty, I type in the username as John Smith, and the password I type in as....what? The password, passphrase, or my computer account logon password?

    Thanks very much!

    -AJ

  • @questionman5 - You actually need a password, SSH (on any platform) typically won't let you log in without a password as this would be a HUGE security risk on your machine.

  • so i have a question. every time i try to access my SSH Server

    ex. ssh server@192.168.0.0

not my actual ip ^ but i get an error message that reads:

    "Connection to 192.168.0.0 closed"
