This is set to a traditional tune from the British Isles, probably better-known as the song variously titled 'The False Bride,' 'I Loved a Lass' or 'The Week before Easter.'
The same tune was also used by Austin John Marshall for his World War I lament 'Dancing at Whitsun,' which has been recorded by Maddy Prior and Tim Hart on their LP 'Summer Solstice,' among others.
A wonderful performance! Having lived most of my life in that area, I'm anxious to add this to my repertoire but a google search leaves me with nothing?! This is a great tune. I'd love to know where Caryl got it from and where the tune originated (and I'd love some e-text lyrics but will get working on that presently, posting them to the Chicago Shanty Group when done).
