In fairness, we give Recology's lawyer, John Frankovich and their General Manager, George McGrath, their 10 minutes of fame to answer. Watch closely when McGrath tells the crowd that asbestos is NOT a hazardous material. It's a tough crowd--except for the Planning Commission.
actually, it's John Frankovich, not McGrath, who tells us asbestos isn't a hazardous material. And actually, he's right. Asbestos is only dangerous, as a lung carcinogen, when pulverized in dust form. During removal, it must be wetted down (to prevent dust) and bagged. The danger would be that during transport and burial, packaging could be damaged, the material dry out, and blow into Winnemucca.
