The 1861 Project, a critically acclaimed collection of new, original songs that bring to life the stories of the real people who fought and lived through the American Civil War, has garnered volumes of national, regional and local media coverage and rave reviews since its July 2011 release.

This video is a condensed version of "The 1861 Project Live" -- a one-of-a-kind on stage presentation, that brings these historically rich, emotionally penetrating songs brilliantly to life. Under the direction of project producer/guitarist Thomm Jutz, with narration and historical context provided by executive producer Paul Schatzkin, The 1861 Project Live offers a fresh, new blend of history and song.

The 1861 Project features collaborations between some of Nashville's top songwriters and performances from a carefully blended selection of veteran troubadours (Dana Cooper, Irene Kelley) and rising new talents (Hannah and Caroline Melby). Nashville icons John Anderson and Marty Stuart also perform on the CD.

Under Jutz' direction, these distinctive artists have crafted a collection that not only explores this historically rich era, but also seeks out the wisdom and warnings latent in countless Civil War stories.
