Kevin Bianchi playing Younger Brother in the musical Ragtime. This production was done with the Cabaret For Life organization in central Jersey as one of the last licensed productions of the show before the New Broadway Production opened. Backed by the Monmouth Civic Chorus and a full orchestra, proceeds of this staged concert went to various nonprofit children's hospitals in the area. It was a thrill and an honor to be able to play this dream role with an incredible cast for such an amazing cause. I hope to be able to play the role again in the future!

  • Be careful about going too lateral with your vowels. You have a fantastic voice, and the more vertical space you create, the more the voice is going to shine through. On tiny moments you go slightly nasal. I recognize it because I do it myself.

Example is the first time you say "Night that Goldman spoke..." It's only on the Night, ever so slight, but there none-the-less. However, just a few seconds before that on Warm, you drop your jaw and what comes out is a gorgeous tone.

    Very well done!

  • @RyanPLion You sound just lie my voice teacher here at school :) Haha. Thank you for the tips, I've been working on just those very things a lot recently. Glad you enjoyed the video!

  • this was pretty bad

  • I did this play over the summer, and you remind me of my friend who also played Younger Brother. But, I love your voice so much more! You are really great :]

  • @ktabianchi My school is doing this show, and this is the role I'm aspiring to get. Would you have any suggestions at all? I've been working quite hard for the past couple years to get my voice ready, but there's always room for improvement. So I'm asking, suggestions?

  • @jnetusil Thank you! It's always nice to hear different opinions. I do have some of the problems Ryan was talking about, but you're correct in assuming that I "used" some of those problems on purpose here. And thanks for thinking Seth would be proud! "WWSRD?" is always in the back of my head when I'm working on a piece or a show.

All I can say is that this was a while ago, and I feel like, as a performer, I have so many more tools under my belt now and would LOVE to tackle this role again.

  • Whatever. There is not ONE way of singing that every voice needs to conform to. Usually, when so-called voice teachers talk like this, I find that they can't actually do what they're telling you to, and they'll find SOMETHING you're doing wrong no matter what. Should everyone place their vowels in exactly the same place? Jeez....

Dude, your voice is amazing, and the only thing I find wrong with this video is the somewhat anachronistic costuming. As far as vocals go, I wish I had your gift!

  • same thing RyanPLion said, but also on a more theatrical note remember that your face isn't the only thing that gets expression in musical theatre, so does your voice. If you want to evaluate my level of hypocracy, don't watch my earler videos haha. The best one that I can use as an example is the Midsummer Night's Dream one (please watch, I need more views on this particular video). Otherwise I think you did amazingly!!

  • This is amazing! I am Emma Goldman in July :P Very excited and I love this video! x
