As my Russian friends advised me, Devon'ka means the same as Devochka (A Girl) , however Devon'ka is not related to the age and has a warm and tender connotation.

Here we have an interesting combination of an old Russian song with an old Russian waltz "Na sopkakh Mandzhurii", extremely popular within the first two decades of 20th century.
Recording made in Germany for Parlphone in early 1930's by a Russian artist -- Stephan Danilevskij with Orchestra G. Tchernoyarov.

Original lyrics thanks to Natalya:

Девонька милая,
Девонька славная,
Девонька, радость моя.
Если б ты знала, моя ненаглядная,
Грустно мне так без тебя.

Утром проснусь, не успею опомниться,
Первая мысль о тебе:
Где ж моя девонька,
Любит ли, помнит ли
Друга в далекой земле?

Мне эти карие
Грезятся глазоньки,
Чудные светлы, как май,
Они мои грезы,
Они мои сказоньки,
Они -- обетованный рай.

  • I always like when Polish sigh about white aristocratic Russia. First, they did everything to undermine and destroy it. Now, they sigh... Polish are always in white, Russians are always in black... This is the mentality.

  • This is not only "mentality" - this is an inferiority

complex of those who cannot see themselves

in other colour - than black.

Perhaps... a dozen of videos on this channel

devoted to Russian culture and tradition would

    be some help (?....).

  • Do you have an mp3 file of it?

U vas est mp3 dlya menya?

    Menya eto pesnya otchen tronula

  • as I mentioned on my main page I do not send music out of YT - Sorry !

  • I am sorry to say that I do not have the recording of

    Дроля мой - sorry !

    My best greetings,

    J.

  • Devon'ka instead of Devochka in this context sounds so sad, so hopeless...

Thanks a lot for the song.

  • Beautiful one Jurek :)

  • @slawayaru I'd say it's more of a "the grass is always greener on the other side" sort of mentality.
