Is this similar to the saying that taijiquan is soft on the outside and hard on the inside? If so, what does it mean then it's said that xingyiquan is hard on the outside and soft on the inside? Does xingyi and bagua have the steel-wrapped-in-cotton feel to it too?

@Far7anRAlBattousai Yes these ideas are related but there is a lot more to both Tai Chi & Steel Wrapped in cotton than that. Hard on the outside and soft on the inside is a body state where the body is soft & mobile but any contact with an opponent is hard and powerful. Xing Yi can also be soft on the outside and hard on the inside depending on how you wish to express it. Xing Yi and Ba Gua can have the "Steel Wrapped in Cotton" feel to them but it is different than with Tai Chi.
