Traditional Latin Mass filmed on the Feast of the Sacred Heart in the small chapel of the International Seminary of Saint Cure d'Ars, Flavigny, France, in 1999. The seminary is the Society of Saint Pius X's second European seminary. Typically seminarians spend their first year of spiritually there before leaving for Ecône, Switzerland, to complete their training.

The film presents the ceremonies of the Missa Solemnis or Solemn High Mass with Gregorian chant and polyphonic motets. Some local customs take place during the Mass. For example, birettas are not worn and the Domini Non Sum Dignus is recited aloud by all present. More astute listeners might also notice the French pronunciation, which is perhaps not the ideal.

This film has been available on the Internet for quite some time encoded in a very low quality format. I have encoded the video here from an original source at the highest quality possible given the size restrictions at Youtube. Unfortunately this has resulted in a slightly blurred picture and mono sound rather than stereo. Apart from the addition of captions, the film remains unchanged.

This isn't a pop concert. This is a traditional Latin Mass as has been celebrated for well over 1800 years. Clapping, dancing, pianos are for pop concerts. The Mass is not some trifle but a serious matter, but I dare say in many supposed ''Christian'' churches these days you can find something like or resembling a pop concert.

  • What is the organ piece being played at the beginning?

  • @nasa19581 The one with the intellectual deficiency is yourself. One of the criteria for stupidity is assuming you know things that you do not. You keep calling me "Protestant". I am not a Protestant, have never been a Protestant, never belonged to any Protestant church.

  • @Monarchos Spoken like a true Protestant, who probably has no idea of what reverence is, or if you do know, does not have the intellect to show it!!!

  • @Monarchos There is a web page that details protestant errors. If you google that, then you will clearly see the errors in your arguments.

  • @nasa19581 Some people might lack reverence to God because they've taken a look at some of his products, like yourself.

  • @nasa19581 If Christians believe the Bible to be the word of God, then if there is no mandate for practicing mass or communion a certain way, then there is nothing incorrect about doing it a different way from the Tridentine mass. Mass might be sacred, but the act of doing it a certain way is not. If you can not find a mandate by God for practicing mass the Tridentine way, then I think we've proven who the stupid and ignorant one really is.

  • @Monarchos Want to see "No Sacredness" in Mass, take a look at the way it's done today, as well as your Protestant Services. It's any wonder why people lack faith and reverence to God.

  • @Monarchos Your stupidity and ignorance truly shows. Firstly, you bring up interpretation. The Catholic interpretation is how do the lessons the bible teach us apply to today's way of life. Your stupidity on finding the specifics of communion and song in the Bible is just that, your stupidity. It is based on the Jewish Services, from where Christianity is based on. Finally, how do you arrive at your conclusion that there is nothing sacred about the Tridentine Latin Mass.

  • @nasa19581 What makes one Protestant or Catholic is their interpretation of the Bible. And there is nothing in the scripture that specifies how to conduct song or communion during mass. There is nothing "sacred" about the tradition of Tridentine mass. It is your preference. All tradition means is that is the way things have always been done. That does not award it merit. I thought their chanting was beautiful, myself. But there is no reason for anyone to mourn over someone doing it different.

  • @Monarchos If you are looking to have music with Drums, Guitars, Women walking around the Altar, and Lay People handing out communion, then you're better off joining some Protestant sect. As for what makes the Traditional Latin Mass the correct form? It is called "Sacred Tradition".

  • @Zebedex You are correct on both counts. The Latin Mass is over 1800 years old, and yes, the Council of Trent did solidify it to what we see now.
