A group of more than 200 Japanese pensioners is volunteering to tackle the nuclear crisis at the Fukushima power station.

The "Skilled Veterans Corps", as they call themselves, is made up of retired engineers and other professionals, all over the age of sixty.

One of the group, Yasuteru Yamada, told the BBC's Roland Buerk that they should be facing the dangers of radiation, not the young.

  • what incredible human beings.

  • what a stupid thing to say "kamikaze" stupid reported so, so stupid

  • We both said OMG at the same time. Why would you ask him that?

  • God bless your souls.Truly the greatest heroes next to the men who fought Chernobyl.I do not know how to describe how great these people are.Upmost respects from Canada.WOW

  • He should have thought of a better metaphor than Kamikaze to use in the interview -.-

  • respect to u from kuwait

  • Interesting how the the concept KAMIKAZE is understood differently by the British interviewer Buerk and the Japanese interviewee, Yamada. The interviewer was quite, quite culturally insensitive here. Yamada makes the logical conclusion that the effect of radiation damage to his life is far less than to to that of young people.

    One very sensible pensioner!!

  • Mr.Yamada strongly denied the image "KAMI-KAZE",but media wish to act the group as Kamikaze, because that is a news. refer "Fukishima 50" then next should be "Fukushima 60".

  • @hamzamtd If learn to spell you will get more thumbs up

  • I am very proud to be a human when I see these people..
