Oh ok, thanks. I don't play a lot of fighting games so that makes sense. Gotta love the thought put into the game, gameplay-wise and the artistic style as well.

That's the game's anti-combo spam system kicking in.

When players exploit a combo which can be used indefinitely, the game will pick it up and allow the one being punished to "burst" out of the combo, hence Samson's afro. That's why it's best to mix up your combos and not be a spamming penis.
