Breath of Fire 3 - Lowest Level No Faerie Village Part 15: Shroom

A harder boss this time around.

His physical hits really hard, and he has a nasty physical attack called Head Cracker that attacks as many as three times. It can even kill Rei assuming all three hits connect (not likely seeing how Rei has 35% Evade though).

An important thing to do here is to steal his Wisdom Fruit. It's an item that restores 100 AP and we want as many as possible for the final battles. It's not sold anywhere, nor do we get access to eat by fishing. Black Porgy (recovers 20AP) is a very weak alternative to a Wisdom Fruit.

Rei should keep trying to pilfer the fruit while Momo and Ryu cast Protects. They might die, possibly more than once.

Rei can technically solo this boss with a Ring of Fire on (absorbs Lavaburst) with a Protect or two but we want this done quickly. Transform into Weretiger after some Vodka and have Ryu help out by using Aura in Warrior form.

For some reason, I forgot to restore his AP after the previous battle, but it didn't cost me my victory.

Next up is Gaist. Oh boy...

Why'd you mix in the Flame Gene if you were just going to use Aura? in case you had the chance to use Flame Claw?

Splicing the Flame Gene in gives immunity to fire. Shroom uses Lavaburst, a strong fire-elemental spell.

Giotto all the way. Those boosts to HP & AP are top priority in this challenge, AP especially.

Some questions though:

1: What determines Rei's success with Pilfer?

2: What the hell was the point of Ragnarok if it didn't do any damage? Or, is it randomized?

1. The same thing that decides Steal's success - enemy's "steal rate". It can be anywhere from 1/64 chance to 1/1 (guaranteed steal). An example of a guaranteed steal is Dragon Lord. The only difference is that Pilfer = attack at half power + Steal. You can miss the target but still successfully steal an item (though Rei has 100% accuracy).

2. Ragnarok appears to deal non-elemental damage that varies greatly in range, and experience shows 0 is more likely than any other scenario.
