This hit by Joan Weber hit #1 on the Top 40 charts. It finished at #19 for the year, 1955. 1955; the year that the music scene changed forever. On July 9, Bill Haley and His Comets hit #1 with Rock Around the Clock, signifying the start of the Rock Era.
I remember watching Westinghouse Studio One with my Dad and Mom when this song was introduced. It played a number of times during the show and I fell in love with it and Joan Weber. The next day I went to Greenville TX. and bought the record. First record I ever bought. That was when I was 13, 55 years ago. It didn't bother me that I didn't have a thing in the world to play it on.
The reason this became a #1 hit was because it was prominently featured on a "WESTINGHOUSE STUDIO ONE" episode of the same title {November 15, 1954}. Mitch Miller gave the producer this recording to use during the program (a variation of "Let Me Go, Devil"), knowing the exposure would cause viewers to go out and buy a copy at their local record shop. And he was right! Teresa Brewer, Sunny Gale and Patti Page "covered" this song, but their versions never topped Joan's in sales or popularity,
hi terryg14, it's a thrill to write to you...I live near Philly and remember Norm N Nites book giving a small background about your mom...you must be about my age-- I was born in 53..--Nite said your mom was born in Paulsboro...can you tell where she is buried and what the name was on her stone? I'd like to visit and pay my respects.. your mom was a doll in the photo Norm N Nite included .. did she really record this while carrying you? God bless your mom and you and your whole family
hey miss terry, no one in the world sings this song like your mom NO ONE,and a lot gave it a go but no body could sing this song like your mom,and i know you must be very proud of her, better then martin better then brewer better then page, was wondering i was told that she was with child when she cut this song might that have been you, anyway next time you go to your moms gravesite please tell her thank you for a great song that generations yet unborn will listen to.thank you from lakewood wa

Say, I remember this song from a show on TV back in 1955? It was very beautiful...and still is.
