Hello knitting friends! This video will show you how to make a double decrease. There are many types of double decreases, just like there are many types of single decreases (K2tog, SSK, P2tog etc). This double decrease results in a raised ridge in the centre of the decrease. It is worked by slipping two stitches together knitwise, knitting the next stitch and passing the two slipped stitches over.

Happy knitting!

  • Super help! Thanks a million!

  • Is there a decrease for the middle that doesn't leave that rib? Cause I need to make a cupping shape like that but maintain the stockinette look.

  • i LOVE your videos. and i love that you do all the rest of the stiches in normal knitting speed. i dont need the whole video in slow mo, just the stitch i'm trying to learn!!!!

  • Thank you so much! You've saved my shrug !!

  • thankyou so much! This has helped me with a pattern i am working on at the moment. Very clear and helpful....:)

  • Very nice and detailed. Try slowing down a bit when your knitting the other stitches. Even though the main part was a slower process, going to fast will increase the chances of someone getting confused or frustrated. That's just how the mind works. Thanks!

  • im working on a stockinette stitch and want to double decrease. Can this method be used for purl stitches too, on the reverse side ? Please help ! Thanks !

  • Thank you so much! I have been trying to figure this out all day. Your video is very clear and well done! :-)

  • Thank you so much! I'm knitting the milkweed shawl and that direction made me pause.

  • Thank you for making this video! I am making a hat that uses this double decrease and I was having trouble with it, but now it will be no problem. The video was very easy to see and the volume was good. Very nice and helpful.
