REVISE: Borla-replica header, stock '05 cat, '08 WRX Magnaflow catback part#16856. Hope your subwoofer is good cause this thing rumbles. Sorry about the horrible quality my good camera does not work with windows vista. Anyway, there was no change in power and no CEL's. I would recommend a real borla header as opposed to a replica as mine is leaking and I am trying to get a replacement. You can get the real one from boxer4racing.com. I used a factory 98-05 cat because the high flow cats are a little too raspy for me and I've heard they cause the drop in torque. I did have to re-route the o2 sensor wires, but you do not need extentions unless you use a high flow cat. The Magnaflow catback is from performancepeddler.com for $478 shipped. The only hard part was welding an extention in the cat back to make it mount up to the 98-05 cat pipe. However you can get a high flow cat pipe from RalliSportRacing.com that will bolt up from the 98-05 borla header to a 06-09 cat back with no other modification and still no o2 sensor extentions.
So basically the stuff you will need to do this to your '08+ Impreza 2.5i:
1. *'98-'05 Borla or Borla replica UEL (unequal length) header.* Ebay has replicas CHEAP!
2. *'98-'05 Impreza 2.5rs catalytic converter pipe.* I prefer an OEM style as opposed to a high flow cat because factory ones give better power and have more accessable o2 sensor bungs. You can find these on ebay also.
3. *An '08+ WRX Cat-back exhaust system.* Make sure to specify for sedan or hatch!
4. *About 1 foot of exhaust piping* to weld in from the new catalytic converter pipe to the new cat-back system.
After getting all the parts, installation should be a breeze. The only pain the the neck part is running the o2 sensor wires from the front of the engine to the back to meet up with the new position of the o2 bungs.
I have an idea. Rev it past 3500 rpm so we can hear what it sounds like wide open. Bet it's raspy.. maybe not?

@bdub232 It is a little raspy higher in the rpm, but more rumble than anything. Check out my other vids of me screwing around in the snow and you can hear the raspyness. Thanks for watching!

hey man great video! i got an 09 impreza 2.5i and lookin to get just some cats, and no headers. ive been lookin at magnaflow, tsudo, SPT, and borla, and not sure which one i should go with, mainly because i'm worried about them only fitting the WRX, and not the 2.5. should i be worried about getting the wrong one, or are they pretty universal for imprezas in general?? thanks!

@jstnb56 As long as you get a '08-'10 WRX cat back system (sedan or hatch, whichever you have), it will bolt up exactly the same as the factory '08-'10 impreza 2.5i catback. However it will still leave the factory cats because they are pretty much built into the factory exhaust manifold which is completely different from a wrx manifold. The downpipe on a wrx and the exhaust manifold on a 2.5i both end in the exact same spot which is why the wrx catback will bolt up to a 2.5i. Hope this helps!

I would like just the mufflers for my 2009 Impreza 2.5i 5-speed sedan (dual mufflers). Can you buy just those mufflers? Which ones are they? I don't want my car loud at all, I just want to be able to hear it over the stereo for shifting

@bdub232 They are the same as what I have. Magnaflow part # 16856. That is the cat-back system (mufflers and some tubing are all that is changed). It says it is for the WRX but it is a direct bolt on for the 2.5i as well. I had just the mufflers for a while. It's not terribly loud, but you can certainly hear it coming. But I have to warn you, without changing the header it will sound like a regular four cylinder (honda civic sound) with just mufflers. Good luck and thanks for watching!
