Capital AK - West Coast Stars

Capital AK is another young brotha hailing from LA, coming out of the Good Life with mad style. His style is very rhythmical, somewhere between a stunter step/double-dipping/fast-paced rhyme scheme, thus the name. "I bust raps like shots; that's why my name is like the gun," he says. With his is ill skills, mad charisma and confidence on the regular, Capital AK is dangerous--especially on stage—where he springs to life...very animated, bursting with energy.

His demo is very tight, with the first sons "S2K: Shoot to Kill," serving a straight battle: "Please/like a burger with cheese I eat MCs/Open war, combat—I'm down with that/Take out your commander and chief/My sniper bullet left him flat." Microphone battling is indeed Capital AK's thing; trouble is, he doesn't want to leave anybody wounded. "I want to be the sole survivor," he says.

His second song, the compelling "Stop Nigguh Freeze," was sparked by a new brief about the killing of a South African youth. "Sitting at home watching my black-and-white TV/Another negro South African has died innocently within the hands of a White man/But it doesn't make a difference/Another dead nigga because Whites don't give a damn." Very nice combination of style and content.

Capital AK's third song, "Stop Rewind Play," is on some ol' "jock me, I'm a lyrist" --type shit. "The object was to come live and direct, to cause a living fiasco on the mic," he says: "I'm ready to rumble/I scare fools to make them fumble/And when they start to stumble then they know they're in for trouble." The concept is to get you to really listen to the lyrics, even have to stop, rewind and play it again and again.

Capital AK is the flava, and I'm sure he will have no problem getting signed. I just hope he gets the right production team, because his project can be universal blow-up of capital proportions. --Bilal Allah
