Yes, you would have to repeat the process as you move along the ribbon. As for the comment on grosgrain ribbon, the process is exactly the same. I chose this ribbon because it had trellis pattern to it.

Gros grain is even more tightly woven and tends to pucker easily with normal density designs.

A higher hoop is better for holding fabrics and machines that have them provide a higher foot lift for hoop clearance. I hope that answers your question.
