Change Of Heart ~ Ep. 5

Demi's POV.

As Tiffany and I were finishing up, I wipe my mouth one more time before setting my napkin on the table. I felt a pair of eyes on me and so I looked up only to see the cook's eyes on me now. I look down at my empty plate, trying to act normal but my mind was just pleading to look at him again. I look up again at him working in the kitchen and as soon as our eyes meet, he looks away.
"So I was thinking that you could come over to my house and we could watch movies for a while. You dont have to go to work tomorrow, do you?" Tiffany asks me, hitching her purse over her shoulder. She got up from her seat, pushing the chair back into the table.
"Uhh, yeah, movies sound great," I tell her, copying her movements and getting up as well. I take one more look at the guy in the kitchen and he was watching me. Our eyes meet once again and I felt something there. I shouldnt be.. but I just do. We stared at each other for a couple of seconds until another guy shouted at him to keep on cooking. I snap out of my thoughts and follow Tiffany as she weaved her way around tables and out into the fresh air. I turn my head slightly to look up at the name of the restaurant. Little Italy.

Joe's POV.

The girl was gone. She left with her blonde friend. I dont know why I was having thoughts about this girl that I didnt even know. It was like I had something to do with her. It was like I've known her from somewhere. I couldnt seem to put a finger on it. But I was sure I have never seen her in my life. I couldnt stop looking at her, no matter how hard I tried to stay focused on the pasta I was making. I've already burnt about ten dishes and everyone in the kitchen was starting to worry about me. Now it was my break and so I hurried out of the restaurant with a water bottle. I sat outside where the parking lot was and look up at the night sky. I always come here during breaks. I could watch the city be in action and cars drive left and right of me. I still couldnt get her out of my mind. I dont know what was it about her.. I cannot be having these feelings. I'm a married man. I'm happily married. I watch as people file into the restaurant and wait to be seated. I saw some usuals and some people whom have never eaten here before. I got up from my seat and went back into the restaurant through the back door. Time to get back to work.

When I finally get home from work that night, it was about 11pm. Tired, I drag myself up the stairs and see Rosie's light still on. I drop my bags onto the floor of mine and Chelsea's room and go into my daughter's room. Chelsea was in the bathroom and Nate's light was off already.
"Rose?" I softly say, going to her bed. She looks up from under the covers and a small smile spreads across her face. "Hey, baby. Its past your bedtime," I point out, in a scolding tone.
"Mommy let me wait for you," she says, looking at me with her big brown eyes.
I smile at her. "You didnt have to. Come on, you need your sleep, princess." I tuck her into bed and lean down to kiss her forehead.
"I love you, daddy," she says, turning on her side and shutting her eyes.
"I love you, too, Rose," I say, getting up to shut off the lights. Leaving her door open, I go into Chelsea and I's room and I see her in her nightgown, her back to me. I quietly sneak up behind her and slip my arms around her. She jumps a bit, startled.
"Joe!" she whisper-shouts. She turns to me and I laugh, putting my hands up in defense. "You scared me."
"Sorrryyy," I sing, leaning down to kiss her neck.
"Ugh. You smell like the kitchen mixed with sweat and tomato sauce," she tells me, pulling away from me. "How was it?"
"It was okay.." I say, pulling off my shirt and throwing it into the dirty laundry pile. "I'm just tired."
"Have you taken your pills yet?" Chelsea looks at me, her eyes narrrowing. I shrug. She sighs, going over to the closet to pull out a bag of the multiple pills I was supposed to take everyday. "You need to take these. Its for your heart," she was telling me.
"I dont get the point of these," I say, taking it from her.
"They're anti-rejection. They help your heart work. They keep you alive, Joe."
She watches me as I leave the room. I go downstairs and pour myself a glass of water so I could swallow each pill, one by one.
