Truly sublime!!! Stephen Foster would surely approve!!! I grew up in a town where the grade schools are named after carpet baggers & most dads worked for the company that owned all the post-bellum slaves in Alabama. (Why did it take coal miners in Pa., W.V., Ohio & Md. so long to get their rights? 'Cause US Steel had THOUSANDS of slaves in the Pittsburgh of the South!) Add Stephen Foster's love of & longing for the South to the mix & you've got one twisted mess in the Birmingham of the North!!!

Wonderful! I imaging that Stephen Foster had your version in mind when he wrote this song. Great rendition!

I love this video! I sometimes go to Civil War reenactments and play my banjo with my roomate on mandolin, but I would love an old minstrel style banjo like that!

Thanks for posting this. Certainly gives us a flavour of how players would have looked and sounded in the 19th C. Did you make your hat and banjo?
Thanks to all for the very kind comments! No, I didn't make the banjo or the hat, but we do strive for the correct period sound and appearance when we do 19th century material. Glad that you appreciate it! Thanks again!
