A highly requested song from the Duran Duran album Seven and the Ragged Tiger.

Please note that in the lesson part of the video I don't explain the "B" part of the verses where the octaves come in to play. YouTube limits each video to 10 minutes so I basically ran out of time. That part you'll have to figure out on your own!

I'm playing my Bossa OB-5 straight into my first generation Digidesign Mbox. Audio recorded in ProTools. Video recorded with my new Creative HD Vado. Audio and Video edited with Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9 (the $100 version). This is my first "true" widescreen video here on YouTube.

More technical details:
Bossa OB-5 Bass - recorded direct to the Mbox. I am not using a bass amplifier or speakers of any kind. No signal processing expect for some limiting with Izotope's Ozone. I don't know what strings this bass has. I'm still using the ones it came with. Usually, I use DR Sunbeams. I'm using mostly the neck pickup in humbucker mode.

Video process - take .AVI video from the Vado HD, process it with Avi2Dvd, take resulting .vob file and transcode it back to mpeg2 with VideoReDo Plus. (I do this because the mpeg2 file is much easier to edit than the .AVI file the Vado HD produces) Then I take the mpeg2 file and, along with the .WAV file bounce I made in ProTools, edit it with Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.

Next time I will try and edit the raw .AVI file from the Vado HD in Vegas (without downgrading to mpeg2) and see if it can handle it as I just upgraded my editing system.

I let Vegas output an NTSC Standard .AVI file. For uploading here on YouTube the final step is taking the .AVI and running it through DivX Pro 7 using the "720p" setting.

Sheesh! You see why it takes me so long to make these things?!

Enjoy!!!

  • Please do some Peter Hook!

  • @heavysumo - The Substance album is one of the albums I played over and over as a teen. I will definitely do some New Order one day. Thieves Like Us is a favorite track of mine.

  • Zuma, many thanks for the lesson! Would you ever consider "Is There Something I Should Know?" I've been waiting for someone to do that one.

  • @Tubes12AX7k - a BIG yes to this one Tubes. THAT song is WHY I picked up the bass.

  • Swet... Taylor is one of my favorite bass players.

  • This was an easy one....but you are great as always! I wonder how people could bother you asking for tabs as your videos are so clear. Thank you again!
