  • Reaper679 That was Miles Davies who wrote that. I merely quoted from his autobiography that I was reading at the time.

  • @Marieloupe10

you sound like a cool guy

  • Guys you may like the version by the UK jazz clarinetist Acker Bilk

  • Miles DAvis sure makes this great composition by Joaquin Rodrigo his own.

In my opinion it allows entirely different emotions and sensations, than the original does. I like both interpretations ~ but on an entirely different level! Being left with an entirely different mood!

  • in response to erploco2, this is a quote from 'Miles the Autobiorgraphy".

"Joaquin Rodrigo, the composer of Concierto de Aranjuez, said he didn't like the record and he - his composition - was the reason I did 'Sketches of Spain' in the first place. Since he was getting a royalty for the use of this song on the record, I told this person who had played it to him, "Let's see if he likes it after he starts getting those big royalty checks." I never heard anything about or from him after that."

  • Remarkable. TY for posting.

  • @erploco2 Rumour has it that Grace Slick spent three day's straight tripping whilst listening to Sketches on a loop-tape before writing White Rabbit. Sounds pretty plausible to me ...

  • tuba f*ck yeah

  • 0:17 - 0:34 the midsection to Captain Beefheart's song "Sugar N' Spikes. Apparently, him and Zappa used to listen to Sketches of Spain constantly when they were teenagers.

  • Great musicians like Miles treat & honor great composers like the great Joaquín Rodrigo with depth, soul, beauty & magic. Rodrigo wrote this in 1939 and was written as a response to the miscarriage of their first child. . Rodrigo died in 1999 in Madrid at the age of 97 & Miles died in 1991.

Anyone know what Rodrigo thought of Miles interpretation?
