It was in the 1980's at the height of the Elvis is alive craze. At the time when he was being seen everywhere, even at Burger King. At the time I worked at an independent record store in Oak Park Il. named Val's Halla. Towards the back where we did a lot of our work we had an old non functioning bathroom. A lot of independent record stores were going out of business due to the conversion to cd's we needed a spark. Elvis died in a bathroom, I loved the sound of tinkling water, maybe if we built a shrine Elvis would pay us a visit. So we found an old fountain, some Elvis memorbilia and before you knew it we had an Elvis shire. Elvis never did show up but a lot of people stopped by the check our tribute out. Along with newspaper reporters, Wild Chicago and on his birthday channel 2 news did a live shot. We continued to operate where a lot failed although a couple of decades later Val's moved she is still in business. Visit her at;
