I recorded this video to see if I could demonstrate the effect of the slides on the applied force while rowing on a concept 2 rowing machine and also including testing the damper at different settings. I believe slides will help prevent stress fractures to the ribs and excessive loads on your body. A strain guage was used between the handle and chain.

I recommend you experiment with different damper setting to find where you can deliver the most force appropriate to your strength - speed of muscle contractions. Using the slides definately lightens the load. I intend to do a 2k comparison with and without the slides to see how my times differ.

  • This video demonstrates the use of slides verse no slides and is not narrated. I am hoping to compare Concept 2 with slides to a RowPerfect. I will connect the strain guage to see what the difference is.

  • Very interesting. The next phase would be on water to see a total comparison. How does this information correlate to watts on the PM?

  • I also noticed that you produced more force with lower drag factor??? Is this right??

You said first one was wide open, which to me means damper 10. If so makes point that same or more force can actually be generated at lower drag factors. Which has been my contention all along. You reach max velocity more towards middle of stroke when legs and body can more effeciantly generate power. Excellent video!!! Convinced me of value of slides!!!

  • Excellent video. Yours is the best one about using slides that I've found.

It is hard to hear what you're saying with the music. Were you only on the slides the last part of the video?

    Thank you for sharing this..
