The irony of this: Since this hit and the ensuing suspension, Cooke has had 7 minor penalties against him called in 46 games since (as of this post)---total.

Cooke made no attempt to deliver a clean check, clearly and blatantly threw his elbow out directly at Ryan McDonagh's head. That's a major penalty regardless of who delivers the elbow, injury or not.
