The first scene is in Molson, MB, about 45 min from Winnipeg. The chugging you hear is the Robot of the departing eastbound.

The second scene is from atop the Disraeli Freeway bridge (being inWinnipeg, its not a true Freeway, I was on the sidewalk). I was annoyed by the people below taking flash photos and honking their horn, but I did not reciprocate their lack of manners by giving my opinion of them.

On a cinematographic note, when shooting in Molson I set the camera to auto-exposure. The focus is very finicky, so I set it manually to 15m or so, The nice thing about the Holiday Train is that it is incidental light, a lot stronger than reflected light. I had some light to spare.I could have better studied features like Auto-exposure shift or manual shutter speed, to obtain a crisper image. Then again, I don't make a career of chasing it cross-Canada, so I only had one chance for a high-speed runby.

Shot on a Sony HVR-A1U in HDV mode, Edited on Sony Vegas and uploaded as a wmv file

  • That is a sick snow shot of the CP Holiday train. I think you can even hear the flags flapping as it approaches. The overhead shot is cool as well.
