Harry Nilssons song Remember (Christmas) has always resonated with me. It seemed perfect for this tribute video produced with/for KPTV.

Ramblin' Rod Anders was a children's show host in Portland Oregon.
In 1997, after 33 years, Rod retired from television.

Sadly, a stroke took Rod from us in 2002.

He really was a great guy, intelligent, funny, kind, and encouraged me a lot in my early career.

I hope this video helps some of you Remember.

  • I, too, watched this before school in the late 80's, early 90's. Funny thing, recently a few friends told me that Rod Anders was a pain in the ass off-set, and chain-smoked off-camera too. I don't know how true it is, because I was never on the show.

Hi, I worked with Ramblin' from 1978 until he retired. Rod didn't smoke (heck he tried to get me to quit) and was a great guy off-camera. He was funny, caring, pretty religious, and quite talented.

It was a great time to be making TV and part of what made it so fun was Rod Anders. I know anyone that was there would agree.

    Thanks for watching!

  • I worked with Rod from 1978 until the early 90's. I traveled with Rod to Disney Land, and many places around Oregon in that time as a TV Director and videographer. I also directed Rod for nearly two decades' worth of MDA Telethons. I NEVER heard a cross word from him...he was easy and fun to direct, tireless, always there ready to work...the sort of 'Talent' that is rare. YES, he was as nice off camera to crew and fans as he appeared to be on-camera. We miss you, Ramblin'

  • I wonder who would have the first hour-long episode of "The Ramblin' Rod Show" from September 8, 1975?

  • Ramblin Rod in the mornings, Portland Wrestling on Saturday night! Man i miss KPTV 12.

  • @ottoiris - Thanks for taking the time to respond! Based on this video tribute, he seemed like a warm & gentle guy. Question- the picture of Anders on the horse, was that taken down at Portland Meadows?

  • Thanks so much for sharing. I watched Ramblin' Rod most days before school here in Cottage Grove. I didn't know how lucky I was...
