Geoff Nichols was brought in the band in late 1979, first as a second guitar to Iommi, and later as a bassist. Geezer Butler decided to return to the band, so Geoff moved to playing keyboards and back up guitar offstage. Prior to that, Sabbath used a couple different keyboardists both live and in the studio. Rick Wakeman played on Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Don Airey played on NSD. Gerald Woodriffe handled keys on Sabotage and TE and toured with Sabbath in the mid-late 70s.
@written12 Thank you for the information. Come to think of it, I can now picture Ward's face, the drawing of him, on the back of Heaven and Hell. One more question for you. Do I hear an organ in the background here? I know Sabbath went on tour with a keyboard player- starting in the mid or late seventies?- Geoff Nichols, perhaps. And didn't Rick Wakeman do studio work for them?
@haggisman1971 As you say, this is one special drum solo. But you know, I thought Ward split the group when Dio came aboard. I mean, on Heaven and Hell, isn't Vinnie Appice Sabbath's drummer?
That Ward drum solo is insane.
Ward is definately the master.
Appice can't come close to that!

No, Bill Ward did the drumming on H&H, and toured with them until late August 1980. Vinny Appice's first show was in Hawaii on August 31, 1980.
