RED-TAILED HAWK ATTACK-SWOOP, CAPTURE, FLIES PREY IN TALON

This video shows a predator at the moment of capture. It is common to show predator eating prey; but almost never is the actual attack shown.

Here a red-tailed hawk swoops from an electric pole at prey. It then attacks and captures the prey (which appears to be a mouse or vole). After a struggle, it flies away with the prey in its talons.

The rest of the video shows more scenes from the life of the same hawk.

**The red tailed hawk, Buteo jamaicensis, is a large powerful bird. It can weigh around 2-4 lbs. and has almost a six-foot wingspan. They have a sharp, strong, powerful beak and curved talons. They tear prey apart with their beaks. The red tails of these hawks showed up several times.
