*From the unabridged edition of Hugill's SHANTIES FROM THE SEVEN SEAS (1961).

This is yet another melody variation (one verse given only) of Lowlands Low (i.e the Golden Vanitee). This one is very similar to the one given by Colcord (1924), who got this melody from a Capt. FRank Seeley. Hugill did not cite his own source, but called it a "modern tune."

  • Thanks Katie! yeah, it is only the comparative example. The full ballad (with a different melody) is here:

  • Nice tune, thanks for sharing! 5*

  • Thanks, Travis. It's just an excerpt for comparison purposes mainly. It *is* a nice, curvy tune.

  • Started on the unabridged version already?! Great stuff :)

  • Yup, just little bits here and there, ha ha. I get bored/anxious.
