Thursday, march 1st 2012 to Saturday 31st march 2012 With the continuing campaigns for Internet-censoring litigation such as SOPA and PIPA, and the closure of sites such as Megaupload under allegations of'piracy' and 'conspiracy' the time has come to take a stand against music, film and media companies' lobbyists. The only way is to hit them where it truly hurts. Their profit margins. March 2012 is the end of the 1st quarter in economic reports worldwide. Do not buy a single record. Do not download a single song, legally or illegally. Do not go to see a single film in cinemas, or download a copy, Do not buy a DVD in the stores. Do not buy a video game. Do not buy a single book or Magazine. Wait the 4 weeks to buy them in April: see the film later, etc. Holding out for just 4 weeks, maximum, will leave a gaping hole in media and entertainment companies' profits for the 1st quarter, an economic hit which will in turn be observed by governments worldwide as stocks and shares will blip from a large enough loss of incomes. This action can give a statement of intent: ''WE WILL NOT TOLERATE THE MEDIA INDUSTRIES' LOBBYING FOR LEGISLATION WHICH WILL CENSOR THE INTERNET.''

This would only hurt the businesses that distribute the media, the store would have already purchased the product to sell and this would only hurt these businesses and not the big media companies it's aimed at, what do you have to say about the effects this would have on small businesses that rely on sales to make an income?

@fortunao101 At a good attempt to make this a bad thing let me explain something. You are only half right. Yes the small businesses are the ones that purchase the items from the companies. BUT, if we don't buy them then those "Small Businesses" aren't going to order more of it, unless they are running low. So if they don't sell, the companies can't sell. Why is the FBI doing it? This should be a job for the NSA.

The FBI have a recent history of attempting to Userp the constitution and legal authority. I think it is more likely they are attempting to take advantage of the situation, to spy on anybody who is going through the servers which will then be owned by the FBI.

@Wannapla17 Black March is a good idea in theory, but think of all the people who don't know or don't care about it. Legion though we may be, I do think the crowd of internet nerds (a term I use with pride, mind you) pales in comparison to the general public, who just don't get what we're on about. Look at SOPA, those senators had no clue exactly what it was that we were protesting. For this to work, EVERYONE has to join in.

Problem with 1 month

1. assume campaign becomes visible and could impact company profits

2. people stop buying for a month

3. Company shares fall for first 2 weeks of March, then go FLYING up. you know why? Because this gap creates enormous potential market for first 2 weeks of the April. Investors see this and they know for sure people will buy 2x more after rthe campaign.

In result I doubt company overall income wouldn't change for the quarter. Thus the weakness of consumers would show.

it is a cute idea, however I can see major flaws

1. to be effective people in tens of millions should do it

2. period is too short. To make any impact at elast 3 month period would be fine - I would rather opt for a campaign, where you abstain as much as possible from any movies, games etc (doubt you can exclude it entirely for 3 months, for example if you are a bar that needs karaoke every week)

@trollpaw It helps the "black market." All the downloads encourage uploads and gives the Distributors Money. At least that's my guess.

what i wonder is, how would you damage them financially by not downloading something illegally? isn't the illegal downloads just what they want us not to do cause it hurts them financially?
