How did Zionism, which originated as the national aspiration of the Jewish people, end up being so misunderstood, mischaracterized and lamented throughout the world? Award-winning documentary filmmaker Oren Rudavsky; Abraham Foxman, the executive director of the Anti-Defamation League; Wall Street Journal editor Bret Stephens; and Thane Rosenbaum, professor at Fordham Law School, engage in a stimulating and provocative conversation of the hate that is being directed toward Zionism. Recorded March 24, 2009 at the 92nd Street Y in New York City.

  • Why is Zionism become a dirty word? Because in its larger, biblical context, its a very bad idea based upon a ludicrous book of fairytails....moderator aside...the arguments on display here are abysmal.

  • @Kurtlane. Jesus Christ, Kurtlane. R U going to post every single piece of zionist propaganda. We have all heard it many times before. And it is all lies. Give it a rest.

  • and perceiving people better than they really are ("99% of Palestinian mothers love their chjildren more than they hate Israelis" - no, they don't "We are not confronting this wall-to-wall culture of hate" - yes we are, "Nazi Germany was a cvulture in hte grasp of evil people" - right, blame it all on Hitler alone, the rest were just following orders (sarcasm)).

They are still liberals at heart. And that's the problem.

  • These are smart people. But they have the typical Jewish disease: believing in fairy tales, imaginary creatures (Palestinian leader who will teach to love one's children more than you hate your enemy) buying into most ridiculous and obvious deceptions (Saudi proposal, which doesn't openly speak of destroying Israel but leads to it anyway)

    (cont.)

  • "I would advise them [Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton] to take the hippocratic oath, 'Do no harm."

And I would advise them to take the anti-hypocritical oath, "Do not lie." Say openly that the goals of PAlestinian leaders, whether Hamas or Fatah or anyone else, as well as Palestinian public at large, is to destroy the State of Israel and exterminate 6 million Jews living there. And that therefore all "peace processes" and "roadmaps to peace" are at best self-deception.

    (cont.)

  • Golda Meir's other phrase, "Peace will come when Arab mothers love their children more than they hate ours" is also stupid. Golda Meir was born in the same place I was: Kiev, Ukraine. So how come she doesn't understand the core of Jew-hatred: utterly irrational disgust. Not even hatred, but disgust. The same disgust one has for cockroaches and lice.

What is the cure for that? A bullet in the brain. There is no other cure. One cannot convince a Jew-hater not to be a Jew-hater.

  • Golda Meir's statement "we might forgive them for killing our children, but we'll never forgive them for forcing us to kill theirs" is a stupid and ugly phrase. I would never forgive anyone for deliberately killing my children. I would certainly rather kill scores of someone else's children than allow my child to be killed. And I'd not have any moral qualms about it. And I think this is a reaction of any normal human being.

  • But Foxman is right on one point: we are not dealing with rational things. We are dealing with propaganda, appeals to emotions, linguistic tricks, poor logic, empty rhetoric, gimmicks, demonization, paranoia, bigotry, hatred for the sake of hatred - all the usual devices of Jew-haters.

What chance does logic, reason and good sense against this barrage?

None. And this is why we are where we are.

  • Sure the world media can affor to have a fit about every alleged "Israeli attrocity," because there are so few. They cannot have fits about the attoricities Assad is currently doing in Syria, because there are so many.

One death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic. Very important lesson for Israel.

    (cont.)

  • War for Independence, 1957 war, 6-day war, Yom Kippur war, raid on Entebbe, raid on Osirak - these were all clear victories!

    And now?

The respect for Israel went down and very quickly disappeared in 1993, with the "Oslo peace process." I remember it all.

I think there were 12 dead in that "school" attack. 9 of them were terrorists who'd just launched a missile at Israel.
