This painting was completed in about 2 hours using only the straight line tool and a single brush size. The original art is from the cover of the Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas DVD case, and it was done by Ralph Steadman. The song is Wax Simulacra by The Mars Volta. Please comment and subscribe. Thanks!

Edit: Apparently buying every release the Mars Volta has ever came out with, and giving them proper credit in the description is not enough to let me use one of their songs for a non-profit video on youtube, so I have since replaced the audio with kind hearted artists, "Portugal. The Man", who have graciously provided me with a song that I am allowed to use on this website. Please go out and purchase their CD's, as they are an amazing band, and feel free to illegally download anything by The Mars Volta, because they are douchebags. (Even Sigur Ros let me use their song, at the price of an advertisement on my page. Thanks guys!)

  • The painting is nice but I noticed one little thing that's wrong in it. The steering wheel is on the right side.

  • Um.. No it isn't.

  • @thebedtimestory Yes it is.

  • @ShutUpNtellMe Is it on the right? Yes. Is it wrong? No it's not. Take a look at the cover of the criterion dvd.

  • Steadman is awesome. I really like his art. You might not like the band too much, but doing a speedpainting video of the cover from Dance gavin Dance's first EP, Whatever I Say is Royal Ocean, or, for more of a challenge, their new self-titled cd. Either way, you definately have some sort of talent, as I see digital art like tis more difficult than traditional art in some ways.

  • I love Dance Gavin Dance, I have downtown battle mountain playing almost constantly, but I need More of a challenge than some high contrast buildings these days. Im currently making Edward And Bella From Twilight for my girlfriend, and I believe that will rake in the viewers. Literally, with a rake.

  • The mars volta kick ass, as does Fear and Loathing

  • Nice work, I have to say the music really makes the vid pop.

  • What's the name of the song?

  • @RASVAKEITINv23 idiot its taken from the book cover

and in the original book cover the steering wheel is on the Right side .

  • Very awesome job man.

  • @thebedtimestory è splendido è splendido è splendido è splendido

  • @chrispalmo "which resulted in an original, new song, unlike anything joe satriani would have written" First, you have no possible way with which to support that claim. Second, if you don't like how the law is set up work to change it. Don't just feel that you can say fuck the law because that logic works to my benefit when I want to beat the shit out of some one but the law says I can't but I feel that I can just break that pesky law.

When coldplay wrote viva la vida, they based the main melody on a tiny snippet of a joe satriani guitar solo, which resulted in an original, new song, unlike anything joe satriani would have written. If it werent for those 20 seconds of improvised ingenuity from joe, we wouldnt have viva la vida. And that isnt to discredit coldplay because they created true art which, in the opinion of many, is alot better than the song from which their inspiration came.

Where is the connection between the sense of security and prospect of steady income and artistic inspiration?

Money does not equal artistic inspiration. It equals economic prospect.

Art is art. Money is money. Money doesnt inspire true art, and should not be used as an excuse to discourage artists from creating

  • @chrispalmo No it doesn't. It inspires art. By knowing that your hard work is protected and that it won't be stolen and used for profit by another person you are inspired to create those works.
