I don't mind a translation to english, but this makes me retch. The beauty of the text in the original libretto about the essence of a bullfight is completely torn asunder by this translation. It would make the authors of the original text for Bizet turn in their graves. Finley is fine as always but the words are terrible.
@raythespian Hvorostovsky is what's wrong with opera right now. He tries to "sound" like a baritone by darkening his voice and over-covering instead of using resonance to create a beautiful sound. Finley is miles ahead of Hvorostovsky in this sense; you can hear Finley pulling the sound up into the space in order to create the buzz in his sound.
@mantiXcore non allemande, c'est anglais

I love Finlay! But i don´t like the english version.
Prefer Hvorostovsky, though

Very nice. Even Robert Merrill had trouble w/ that low F.
The mezzo sounds appropriately seductive.
Don't think much of the bullfighter costume. Modern productions are so
ridiculous. The last one I saw had a set made of theater seats. That
was about 30 years ago. Haven't been to an opera since.

He seems ideal for Onegin...especially now that Hvor has retired it.

Not right for him, but not too bad. The mezzo at 4:30, however ...

@mantiXcore En allemande? Il est en anglais (Finley a un disque d'airs d'opéras en anglais).
