Just a quick update this morning on Gisela
She has been very quiet again after visiting the vets yesterday for her blood tests
The initial results were encouraging as she was Leishmania borderline,
Negative Filaria and Negative also for Erlichia.
However she is very anaemic.
The kennel cough has really begun to make her appear a little weak and her lungs have started to get fluid on them.
She did not eat very much yesterday afternoon after she received an antibiotic to help with her diarrhoea.
She is drinking a great deal though.
I had to take her into the vet again this morning after we heard the fluid on her lungs and also to get her back on the drip for the day (8 hours)
The vet has given her something direct into the vein to help with the fluid build up on her lungs.
The vet is doing everything she can think of for her and she has said the next few days is crucial.
Fingers and everything here is crossed for her.
Andy

UPDATE
We just had a call from the vet this morning that has spoken with the hospital to say that the situation with Gisela is very much the same as it was.

The problem is that she has not yet responded to the antibiotics for the kennel cough, and this continues to make her feel weak.

She is unable to eat voluntarily and is still having to be encouraged to eat by syringe straight into her mouth.

Her diarrhoea looks to be better though, in that there is more colour to it. although it could not have got any worse.

Cant treat Leishmania yet as she is still too weak for additional non urgent medication.. Prognosis is probably now less favourable that it was a few days ago.

We will on Monday bring her home with us if she has not made any real progress in the hope that familiar surrounding and love and even some sunshine could get her to fight all over again and make a little progress.

Our overwhelming concern is that we must not allow Gisela to suffer needlessly any longer than is appropriate given her condition and chances of recovery.
At some point next week we may be close to having to look at our options for her again if no sign of improvement is made. We will obviously be talking at length to our vet and other members of our charity in order that we do what we feel is best for Gisela.

The moment she once again decides to eat by herself it will be champagne and party time down here in the streets of Camposol.!

  • Now more than ever, I will keep thinking of you, sweet girl! Thank you for the update, Gail. I am coming here as often as I can, trying to see if there are any news, I can't stop thinking about that sweet, gentle face... Gisela deserves to pull through this, if only to discover what life is really about. I am thinking about you too, my friends. Sending lots of love and admiration and gratitude to you both. Keep fighting, little one!

  • Unfortunately Giselas condition deteriorated last night and so we rushed her to the veterinary hospital in Alcantarilla. They did another Leishmania test which was positive so now treatment has commenced for that. She will stay in intensive care for at least four days so they can monitor the liver and pancreas damage and they hope by Monday she will have begun to eat by herself. Thank you all for the kind positive thoughts sent to her ,it is amazing how people have taken her to their hearts. xx

  • Hoping, wishing and praying for this girl. Gisela's very much in our thoughts.

  • Me and my friends are thinking about her all day long ...We all have you Gisela in our mind and we know you will be better ...little fighter ...
