Skaven are the rat-men of the Under-Empire, and secret shapers of the world. Skaven live in a phenomenally vast and intricate network of underground tunnels called the Under-Empire, which extends all throughout the Old World and beyond. They hide themselves away from the eyes of surface-dwellers, emerging only to carry out their secret schemes and to gather the massive amounts of warpstone needed to sustain their magic users and the arcane machines of their warlocks. On rare occasions the Skaven clans gather in vast swarm armies to wage sudden war on other races in the name of their evil God; the Horned Rat.

They were officially introduced as a new Chaos race in 1986 by Jes Goodwin.

In the background of the setting the Skaven are described as a clan-based society in which the Council of Thirteen holds important significance. All Skaven pay homage to the Horned Rat, their only deity, whom they worship primarily out of fear of retribution. Skaven are portrayed as sneaky, conniving, selfish, cowardly and backstabbing - traits associated with rats. They are also closely linked to plague and disease (particularly the Skaven clan Pestilens). The Skaven believe themselves to be superior to all other races, especially those that live above ground.

Despite its large population, the existence of an organised Skaven society is carefully and violently concealed from humans and other races of the Warhammer universe. Even when presented with irrefutable proof, the common man regards them as no more than rat-faced Beastmen, although there is no direct link between the two species. It is a widely held belief that if the Skaven could put aside their in-fighting and distrust of each other, they could potentially take over the world...

  • Is their any reason skaven are not in warhamemr 40k? like whats really their story, i know he kind of described it in the info box, but i want to know more about them.

  • @MegaMetalDemon I'm no expert, but if you subscribe to the non-official theory that the Warhammer planet is part of the W40k universe, the simple explanation would be that Skaven just didn't spread in the galaxy : no spaceships, no space Skaven.

The closest race to Skaven in the W40k universe are the Hrud, but they don't play an important role and look more insectile than rat-like.

If you want to learn more about Skaven just google "skaven fluff" or "skaven W40k".

  • @MegaMetalDemon Fluffvise theyre not in 40K.

But gamevise they are simmilar to the tyranids, swarms of lesser creatures led by bigger ones and if their leader is killed the army crumbles.

  • @CurseoftheGarrett shut up dumbass and dont be so fucking sour that your damned dark elves wont be able to take over the world either!

  • M-I-C-K-E...waitaminute.

  • Skaven meat waaaaaaaaaaaaaagh

  • ok skaven are hard motherfuckers to die in combat but for the Emperors sake!!!!!!No rat poison in sigmar????

  • @MegaMetalDemon - The Skaven are the malevolent children of the chaos moon Morisleb. They are from the World where Warhammer is set, in a time long after the great end of the 40000th millennium

  • yeah skaven!

tomorrow epic battle against 3,500 points darkelves with my skryre armee xP

    for the great horned rat!

  • Just gotta love those rats.

  • @MegaMetalDemon In addition to the theory of Warhammer fantasy just being an isolated planet in the 40k system, then it's easy to say that they simply have not evolved space travel yet.

The other theory is, of course, that Fantasy is the past of 40k. In which case, you can assume that they became extinct at some point along the way (with Lizardmen, Wood Elves, Beastmen, Sky Titans, Dragons, Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts, and Orcs...oh wait...)

  • @carlogwapo1234 you just keep it by the red squig's (i now squig means food)
