Structure Fire- 434 Mountain View Road

RNW Video clip from a fully involved house fire. No one was at home, but as of time of post, 2 dogs and three cats were unaccounted for.

They did not have a good water supply in either of the fires, but with this one though it was a different shift, some of the firefighters had been on the other fire so they knew they'd have to set up a draft operation from a nearby pond along with shuttling, which allowed them to get that operation under way quickly.

I'm not sure how it started, but I believe they had just left before the fire broke out... The house next door that was built at the same time and was almost identical burned in the same fashion a year earlier.... They both were fully involved very very quickly and burned like tender....

This was my parent's house.

There was someone home, a friend of the family. He had a small burn but nothing serious.

Two cats and two dogs were lost in the blaze, only one escaped.

I don't know if the unit's had a good water supply but my first thought was "deck gun" followed by hand lines. Sorry about he loss of the house & the first due engine certainly had it's hands full.

Was this unoccupied at the time? Or just a fast moving blaze?

You can build a home of steel but it will still bend, break, and collapse. Concrete will crack, and pop until it's no longer structurally sound. There is no such thing as fire proof. And fires can start any where and any time. Just hope you call when our stations manned.

@pacvend It depends on where you live and how it's constructed. A concrete building with cement shingles is very resistant to wild fires. But if you have a fire that starts because of say careless smoking, you can still burn out the interior and possibly damage the house to the point where it is not salvageable. You'd be left with just a shell. It's better to have a good smoke detection system tied to an alarm, and good local fire protection. Home sprinklers are the best protection.

@pacvend Unless you're going to furnish it with nothing but steel and concrete, it can still be destroyed by fire from the contents.
