What an instrument.

@tronfan66 I saw an add of sorts (matrixsynth) for a Chamberlin 300 that was originally owned by Bobby Darin, claiming that it was used on "Mack the Knife". Although I've read that he owned one, I haven't seen any supporting evidence for this claim. This precursor to the Mellotron might also have been heard on some Lawrence Welk recordings, since he was involved in the development of the tape library for it.

@TurbeenBeatz and TheRunner75 - strictly speaking, I'm afraid you're both mistaken: Mellotron demonstration disc aside (!), the first known band to put out records featuring Mellotron was The Graham Bond Organisation in 1965. Then Manfred Mann in '66 with 'Semi Detached...', then the Beatles a few months later with Strawberry Fields. Some have said that there's 'tron on 'Tomorrow Never Knows' but the jury's still out on that one.

@TheRunner75 no i think the beatles were first

okay...now gonna have to do Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come and Adrian Wagner!
-
Are Manfred Mann the first band to introduce mellotron in pop music?
-
1) Semi-detached Suburban M. James
2) Ha Ha Said the Clown
-
For the second one yes. But the first one is "Semi-Detached Suburban Mr. James".
-
That would be way cool.
