They're 2 years old now and not stupid anymore! Everytime someone goes out the back door the ducks come running. Why? You'll see why at the end.

A few of the chickens try to get in on it too.

  • waa, I've only got 4 left - a fox ate the rest!

  • @vladhed Not to be too gross, but...were they decapitated? If so, it was a weasel....

  • @L5Luver No idea - never found them. They would all disappear during the day.

  • @vladhed You need predator proof housing or they will all disappear :(

  • @ashlanas The housing is predator proof (never lost any at night) but they are free-ranging. The solution was to get a goose - she has become their mother and keeps them together and scares off any predators during the day when they are outside.

  • @vladhed Terrible owner!

  • I had an indian runner for a year before he got eaten by a fox. It takes about that long before they learn that you're not trying to eat them :) He was disemboweled, for those who are interested :P They make great pets!

  • @ashlanas Right. We all know how deadly a duck's bite is! HAHA Seriously, yes, I bet wolves and coyotes may do the same thing.

  • @L5Luver not necessarily, a lot of animals decapitate their prey to enable them from biting.

  • @vladhed Well, that does sound like a fox then!

  • @vladhed I am sorry to hear that! I rescue domestic ducks and my best friend has a lot of them. I did rescue a single goose last year and was not able to find her a good goose home. So on a whim, we put her with the ducks. She is exactly like you said, "mother goose" She protects those ducks as if they were her babies. Glad to hear someone else has had a similar experience :) What do you feed your ducks..and goose?
