Cornbread Red was driving to Johnson City Il when a truck in front of him turned over. Red checked to see if the guy was alright then took his wallet with $300 in it! Now that's a hustler for you! Story confirmed by Don Diephaus Cincinnati fellow hustler in his day!

He entered the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY in 1945 where he earned a B.A. and M.A. in English and literature. While in college he worked at a pool hall.
