3 things are needed to make fire; they are fuel, oxygen and an ignition source. The first 2 have to be present in the correct proportions (above LEL). Liquid gasoline does not have enough oxygen present to be flammable; it is too rich. However, gasoline vapors mixed in air can be quite flammable. And I guarantee that a lit cigarette has enough energy to start the thermal decomposition reaction, if placed in such environment. But don't take my word for it... stewartx5 is correct.
As a smoker myself, I certainly wouldn't recommend or try this. Gasoline fumes are many times more flammable then liquid gasoline, thus could easily be ignited by a lit cigarette. Those fumes will burn hot enough to ignite the liquid gasoline.
Lol, I love reading the comments of the people trying to figure out ways to prove that it will light up if you put the gas on the ground or whatnot, but like the smart people are trying to tell the ignorant ones, a cigarette cherry is not hot enough to spark a flame in the fumes and/or liquid part of gasoline. Now maybe if you're sticking your face right next to the gas while taking a drag in, it MIGHT light it, but even still, who wants to try that now? lol
It's not fake. I used to wash my gocart parts in a oil pan with gas and a paint brush. I smoked then and used to throw them in the gas to freak everyone out. A cigarette isn't hot enough to ignite the fumes let along bring liquid fuel up to ignition temperature.
