  • And how many cars that that train hold, six or seven. Theirs millions of cars on LA freeways. Go back to the drawing board.

Perhaps we shouldnt have built right up to the freeways. We should have left the land open for future freeway widening. We sealed our own fate. I need my own airplane, thats what I need.

  • Each train carries about 50 cars and busy freeways run about 4000 trains a day - about the same capacity as a busy LA freeway - do the math.

  • Instead of carrying a human (say 70Kg), it carries a car (2000Kg). What is the point?

  • You have your car when you get off the train and it's solar powered - doesn't waste non-renewable resources.

  • Well this method is one of those equally good as equally bad.

You say that this will save energy but have you ever done a test on how much energy it will take to move 50 cars weighing 2000kg as fruitbonbon stated at over 40 to 50mph is ALOT OF POWER. My local metro consumes over 700 volts at X amps to move 50,400kg at no more than 40mph. You're talking about moving more than 100,000kg! at 40+mph You will use more energy than if we just drove ourselves.

    There is

  • I think it's a good idea... saves energy, time and frustration. We encounter so much traffic on the LA freeways, no matter what time of the day. And forget trying to get away on a weekend... even just a quick trip up to Santa Barbara can be stressful, with the amount of traffic on these freeways.

  • Why hasn't this been considered before? It saves energy, relieves traffic, reduces noise, can be built and expanded rapidly, doesn't require government subsidies, and actually solves the traffic problem. Best of all it doesn't mandate that the idiots of the world use it - they can still drive on the freeway.

  • what a crock of shit! its in a tunnel its not solar powered. To power a car by solar power is virtually impossible! There is nowhere near the required energy output from the sun, whats more disturbing is that trains are thousands of times more massive! Requiring an impossiblly large array of solar panels. The idea is ridiculous, too many materials needed, too much energy requirements, wot about congestion?? Too much computation needed for loading on and off track. ITS A HORRIBLE IDEA!

  • will never happen

  • I understand that you're trying to avoid high-speed merges and diverges, but it seems to me that using the shuttles without the train would be much less expensive.

Also, considering the energy and materials necessary for vehicles of 350 pounds/lineal foot, PRT networks would be more efficient.

  • dumbest idea i've ever seen.

  • neat. but docking with a train at 200 or so mph is a bit risky considering all the things that could go wrong don't you think?

I think the train should stop at the station and load up with cars. And then drop each car off at the right destinations filling up empty spaces as it goes.
