@tpir1972 There was probably an echo chamber involved (or some other effect)
-
hOW DID Jay do that SALE OF THE CENTURY was there a megaphone there or did he use his voice?
-
It's the equivalent of a getting a question correct.
-
Man! I never knew "Sale of the Century" had a syndicated/nighttime version.
-
It's hard to believe that this Episode Aired after Helaine Lowey walked away with over $142,000 in Cash and Prizes.
-
It certainly does
-
Yes, as he is associated with fremantle media

mittdawson this episode has awesome VQ, did you tape this off of it's original broadcast?

not really, this clip is encoded from a VHS dub of another VHS dub of a 3/4" U-Matic dub of the 1" master broadcast reel, w an awesome codec...several generations down, but still looks pretty good.

This and NBC's daytime version were great incarnation of the game, basically faithful to the original NBC version in 1968 created and produced by Al Howard (Jones Howard Productions sold the rights [OUCH!] to Australia's Reg Grundy after its NBC cancellation in 1973 and end of its syndicated run in 1974). The Aussie and L.A. sets were far smaller than the monstrous original two-story set in NBC's Studio 8H at 30 Rockefeller Center in New York. Creator Al Howard produced this version for Grundy.

That's incredible! These are the kind of comments I am truly grateful for, thank you, whoever you are. I would love to have seen the '68 set, does anyone out there have a clip to share?

I had attended four tapings when original host Jack Kelly, and the set was breathtaking, with the contestants' desk, host podium and "Instant Bargain" set on the upper level. A curved staircase descended to the main floor and the grand prizes with the largest car always in from of the $ale of the ¢entury" logo. The slotted sign often dissolved to vacation prize scenes. Three old SOTC shows from a network affiliate West Coast feed were recently discovered stored at KNBC-TV in Burbank, CA.
