  • Mr. Egerton-Smith performs Bach in a manner that fulfills ideals set forth by Edwin Fischer, Tobias Matthay and Wilhelm Kempff. This is warm, vibrant, full of momentum and a strong sense of direction. Performed in a sunny playful mood with beautiful tone, and contrapuntal clarity that never seems forced -- the dominant voices just grow naturally out of the prevailing texture and sing with a great understanding of ensemble.

There is joy here but nothing boisterous, hard edged or egocentric

  • Bravo, INDEED!

  • the old school of thought was that Bach shouldn't be played with pedal, however, it is now accepted (to a certain extent). Quite frankly, it brings warmth to the pieces in some areas where playing it without the pedal would sound less colourful and beautiful (unless overused and muddy). He uses it quite well I find. Well done nevertheless!

  • you're not suppose to play this piece with the pedal. no offense though. other than that..i think it was nice.
