"Straighten Up and Fly Right" was the first commercial success for the Nat King Cole Trio when it was recorded in November of 1943. Although not known as a songwriter, Nat had composed the song having been inspired by a sermon his father, a preacher, had often given based on an Uncle Remus-like folk tale. Johnny Mercer, one of the heads of Capitol Records, had heard Nat sing it live, and quite possibly it was the thought of having Nat record this for Capitol that afforded Nat a musical association with that recording company that lasted the rest of his life. Nat recorded this version of it in March of 1961 as he was re-recording his great catalog of hits for "stereo".

While I agree that Nat is the coolest cat to have ever lived, I have to state that there's no such thing as a 'de-evolution' of music. Certain people just can't relate to music from any era other than the 'new school'. lil wayne is an excellent lyricist and exceptional musician in his own respect. Nat is still the greatest, though.
as an avid lover of hiphop, I cannot comprehend how you think lil wayne is an excellent lyricist, let alone musician (he does nothing on the instrumental side of things).
Lil wayne is not fit to lick the shoes of nat king cole.
A true master piece is so accurate...cool & classy too! No others in today's musical globe can compare to the stylings of Nat King Cole or of any of the other musical greats such as Bing Crosby, Pat Boone, Elvis Presley or even Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr, although their talent is attributed more to the comedy field nowadays.
