You are right about Tom Mix. Not too sure if the John Wayne story is true, though. Wayne didn't really start hanging out in Hollywood with any regularity until about 1930. I will have to ask Hugh about that Wayne story...he has never told me that one!

Apparently though, Wyatt Earp did not. Earp retired from his lawman days to Hollywood where he hobnobbed with the film stars including ... a young John Wayne. When Wyatt Earp died, Tom Mix was a pall-bearer.
