Action-packed look at the beginnings of the fall of the Roman Empire. Here is the glory, the greed and grandeur that was Rome. Here is the story of personal lust for power, and the shattering effects of that power's loss. Here is the tale of the plight of a people living on the brink of a political abyss.
More true to history than Gladiator; it gives the auction of the Empire. BTW Aerelius wasn't as good as Nerva or Trajanus - he never swore not to kill a senator without due trial by his peers and he reverted to hereditary succession making Commodus and his twin brother Ceasars at 4 jears. Marcus never planned to not give Commodus the succession.

Man, talk about a movie that could use a facelift. Don't get me wrong, I love this move but it could use some modern technological and scholarly touch-ups.

Great stuff. The only thing I don't like about this film is the ending, but of course there isn't much the film makers could do about that.
