Short flight from American Samoa (Pago Pago Intl) to Apia, Samoa (Faleolo) featuring the NAMC YS-11 twin-engine turboprop airliner. The YS-11 was the only successful commercial airliner ever built by a Japanese firm, but was phased out by Japanese airlines due to the need to retrofit the aircraft with TCAS collision avoidance systems. The YS-11 is powered by two Rolls Royce Dart turboprop engines (shown up close in the video). 182 were produced from 1962-1974. American air traffic controllers used to refer to the YS-11 as a "Japanese Convair."
