We decided to participate in the "Life in a Day" project by recording and submitting footage of some of the things we did on Saturday, 24 July 2010. According to Kevin Macdonald (the director of the film), submissions can range from mundane, to moving, to awe-inspiring. We found out about this project on the day of filming (July 24th), and late in the day at that, which didn't give us much time to plan anything particularly awe-inspiring. So we just ended up shooting impromptu footage here and there of whatever we did that day. We figured it could always be used as B-roll or something....
24 JULY 2010: Part 1 of 3 - Drive-Thru Car Wash
The car was in desperate need of a wash. Before heading to the beach, we got some gas and took it to a drive-thru car wash in Sherman Oaks, California. While we were waiting for our turn in the line of cars, I shot some footage of the sun shining behind a palm tree through the dirty windshield, as well as of our little "bicycle man" air freshener thingy that's attached to one of the the AC vents (although he's more of a "unicycle man" now, since his back wheel had broken off). The car wash follows... in all of its wet, sudsy banality.
(I apologize for my unsteady hands and the sometimes shaky footage.)
